Huge Portion of Road Under IIT Delhi Flyover Caves in; Traffic Diverted

New Delhi: A portion of the road under the IIT Delhi flyover in Hauz Khas area caved in, developing a huge sinkhole on Saturday. No untoward incident or loss of life has been reported so far. The Delhi Traffic Police has diverted vehicular movement on the road for now.

According to reports, the road caved in due to the heavy rains in the national capital over the past few days.

Taking to Twitter, Delhi Traffic Police issued an alert and said, “Traffic going from Adhchini to IIT has been diverted from Adhchini to Katwaria Sarai due to the collapse of the road near the red light. Please avoid using this route.”

Heavy rains in the national capital has caused damage to several roads in the national capital and its neighbouring areas. A few days ago, a car got partially submerged in a sinkhole in Dwarka and had to be pulled out using a crane.

The IMD on Friday had issued an orange alert, predicting moderate rain on Saturday and warning of possible waterlogging in low-lying areas of the national capital and major traffic disruptions. A yellow alert has also been issued for Sunday and an orange alert for Monday.

Delhi received an average of 43.6 mm rain till 8.30 am on Saturday, according to the India Meteorological Department (IMD). Moderate rains are expected later in the day, the weatherman told PTI.
