Ahead of Diwali, Haryana Bans Sale and Use of Firecrackers in 14 Districts Near Delhi

Gurugram: Just days ahead of Diwali, the Haryana government has issued a notification banning  Haryana has banned the sale and use of firecrackers in 14 districts near Delhi. The 14 districts where the ban is implemented are– Bhiwani, Charkhi Dadri, Faridabad, Gurugram, Jhajjar, Jind, Karnal, Mahendragarh, Nuh, Palwal, Panipat, Rewari, Rohtak and Sonipat. As per reports, no online shopping sites can even sell such items for these districts.

However, people residing in cities in which air quality is moderate or below will be allowed to use green crackers. The government order further stated that even for marriages and other occasions, only green crackers will be permitted.

The order said, “The cities/town/areas in which air quality is moderate or below, the timings for use and bursting of crackers, on Diwali days or any other festivals like Gurupurab, etc will strictly be from 8 pm till 10 pm only. For Chatt, the same will be from 6 am to 8 am. On Christmas and New Year Eve, when such fireworks start around midnight, i.e. from 12 am, it will be from 11:55 pm till 12:30 am only.”

The government has also notified about the ban earlier this month which has been issued in view of the deteriorating air quality that the region witnesses during this time of the year, which is enhanced by the bursting of crackers and stubble burning in nearby districts. The order came soon after directives were issued by the NGT and the Supreme Court on the restrictions on the use of crackers.
